Italian Meatballs Recipe

Italian Meatballs feeds a crowd. Simple ingredients make these meatballs soft, juicy, and flavorful on the stovetop or in the oven.  

Ingredient

– 1 pound ground beef – ▢1/2 cup breadcrumb – ▢1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese – ▢1/4 cup milk – ▢1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley – ▢2 large eggs – ▢2 cloves garlic minced – ▢1 teaspoon dried oregano – ▢1 teaspoon dried basil – ▢1/2 teaspoon salt – ▢1/4 teaspoon black pepper – ▢Tomato Sauce: – ▢2 tablespoons olive oil – ▢1 medium onion finely chopped – ▢4 cloves garlic minced – ▢2 28-ounce cans crushed tomatoe – ▢1 teaspoon dried oregano – ▢1 teaspoon dried basil – ▢1/2 teaspoon salt – ▢1/4 teaspoon black pepper – ▢1/4 cup chopped fresh basil

Step 1

Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, parsley, eggs, minced garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Mix ingredients with your hands or a big spoon until equally dispersed.

Form meatballs (1 ½ inches in diameter) from the mixture. About 24 meatballs. Cook olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown on all sides, 8-10 minutes, flipping periodically. Remove meatballs from skillet and put aside.  

Step 3

Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook the onion for 5 minutes, stirring often, until softened and transparent. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce.  

Step 4

Return the browned meatballs to the skillet with tomato sauce. Cover and boil the meatballs over low heat for 30–40 minutes, or until they reach 165°F. Remove the skillet from heat and sprinkle chopped fresh basil over the meatballs and sauce.
